During the last Ice Age, it was possible for human hunters to walk from what is now northern Germany and the Netherlands, across to East Anglia and 10,000 years ago, the area would have been one of the richest areas for hunting, fishing and fowling in Europe.
A large freshwater basin occupied the centre of Doggerland, fed by the Thames and the Rhine. Its lagoons, marshes and mudflats would have been a haven for wildlife and humans. Slowly sealevels started rising. And 2,000 years later, Doggerland had become a low-lying, marshy island covering an area about the size of Wales. A zunami made an end to all living there.
